How to Make a Sugar Body Scrub?
Following the below steps to make your own sugar scrub.
Equipment
- Mixing bowl
- whisk or hand mixer food processor (optional)
- Jars or mason jars
Ingredients
- 1 cup white sugar, brown sugar, or coconut sugar
- 1/4-1/2 cup of carrier oil (I used coconut oil – which you can make at home or buy)
- 15-20 drops of essential oils
- 1 teaspoon dry herbs (optional)
Starting with 1/4 cup of oil (I used coconut oil), combine one cup of sugar or brown sugar. Then, combine the sugar and oil using a whisk or food processor.
To make the scrub hold together and not be too dry or oily, if it is dry, add more oil.
Add the essential oils next. I like to begin by adding 10–15 drops, stirring thoroughly, and smelling the scrub. Then, if more is required, I’ll add more, five drops at a time, until I achieve the desired fragrance.
Now is the time to add any antioxidants or preservatives that you’re planning. Please wear the correct gloves and safety equipment if you are using a preservative.
Scoop the sugar scrub out of the bowl and into storage jars. Label each jar with the name of the fragrance and the date it was made. Keep the scrubs in a cool, dark location.

What Kind of Sugar Can I Use?
There are three main types of sugar you can choose from when making homemade sugar scrubs.
- Brown sugar is the least abrasive making it a good choice for sensitive skin and facial scrubs. A brown sugar scrub can be used up to four times per week because it is the gentlest.
- Pure cane sugar (unrefined white) is good for all skin types and contains essential nutrients to feed the skin. It is usable twice to three times per week.
- Turbinado sugar (raw) is naturally the coarsest due to its large granules and makes for a great body scrub. The most important minerals are found in this sugar, which has undergone the least processing of the three. Up to twice a week, you can use body scrubs made with raw sugar.
How to Use Sugar Body Scrub?
Wondering how to use sugar scrub on body? You can use your body scrub after a shower or bath for the best results:
Shower
After showering, pat your skin dryly while leaving a small amount of moisture on it. Apply the sugar scrub to various body parts in circular motions after scooping up about 1 to 2 tablespoons in the palm of your hand.
Once finished, rinse any extra sugar granules away. This sugar scrub is edible, so you can apply it all over your body without risk.
Bath
I’ve found that a nice soak in the tub for at least 20 minutes works wonders for the best outcomes. The outer layers of skin become softer after a bath, making it simpler to scrub away dead skin cells.
After you’ve finished soaking, gently pat your skin dry, then rub the scrub all over your body in circular motions. When finished, rinse off to reveal gorgeous, glowing, soft, and supple skin!
